Current Volunteer Positions

Director of Online Support

DSDN is seeking a Director of Online Support. The Director will be responsible for growing and maintaining DSDN’s online groups. This is a volunteer position with a two year term.

The mission of the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network (DSDN) is to connect, support, and provide accurate information to parents—and the medical professionals who serve them—from the time of diagnosis through age 3, while fostering the opportunity for lifelong connections. Our vision is that every Down syndrome diagnosis will be delivered in an unbiased, factual, and supportive way every time, and that families can quickly find meaningful connections. We value the diversity that exists within the Down syndrome community and strive to reflect that in our team, community we serve, programs, and services.

The Director of Online Support is responsible for guiding the Support Team in their objective to offer private, moderated, and consistently safe spaces for families to connect. The Director of Online Support serves a two-year term. DSDN director meetings are held monthly and moderator meetings should be regular but may be scheduled at the Director of Online Support’s discretion. All meetings are conducted virtually due to our geographic makeup.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the FB Moderators & Admins board with post ideas, support, encouragement, and a "tip of the week." Answer ad-hoc questions posted by moderators.

  • Monitor all boards, with an emphasis on All Stars. Report any trends or challenges to the Director of Family Services.

  • Provide backup for moderators who need or request help.

  • Own biannual moderator re-commitment.

  • Manage moderator onboarding: recruiting, training, retention, and progress.

  • Retain two active moderators for each group. (Some groups will need or can take more or fewer than two.)

  • Provide ad hoc and proactive guidance, support, and best practices to all moderators.

  • Partner with the Director of Family Services to set and work toward yearly Support Team goals.

  • Provide a photo and 2-3 sentences about each moderator to the Director of Social Media for volunteer spotlights. Share the spotlight in that moderator's group(s) when posted.

  • Share the subgroup spotlight on the FB Admins & Moderators board and ask them to share as appropriate. Give spotlighted group's moderators a heads up that join requests will be forthcoming.

  • Maintain an up-to-date list of moderator assignments, weekly subgroup highlight schedule, and any other reference materials on the FB Admins & Moderators board.

  • Help the Director of Family Services create new groups as needed.

  • Provide coaching, extra resources, and mediation where needed for moderators and parents.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • 6+ months of experience as a DSDN group moderator.

  • Strong diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for DSDN’s mission and vision.

  • Sufficient time availability for duties.
